As part of Foster Care Fortnight students from The Academy Hair & Beauty Training School joined forces with the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust to provide a ‘Pampering Day’ for local Foster Carers in the Europa Hotel, Belfast on Thursday 16
th May.
Foster Care Fortnight is an annual campaign aimed at raising the profile for the need for foster care and provides the local Health and Social Care Trusts with the opportunity to campaign and raise awareness in each area of the need to recruit and maintain new Foster Carers. This year the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust got in contact with The Academy Hair & Beauty Training School to create a ‘Pampering Day’ as a way of rewarding existing carers. About forty carers arrived at the Europa Hotel, Belfast and were treated to a day of pampering from our students.
Linda Lyness, Foster Carer with the Belfast Trust, currently sits on the Belfast Fostering Forum and played an integral role in setting up the day for local Foster Carers. Speaking to The Academy Hair & Beauty Training School, Linda said “It is heart-warming and encouraging to see local trainees and businesses step up and say Thank You to Belfast Trust Carers who all need a bit of a pampering at times”. Hilary Kearney, Centre Manager at the Brunswick Street campus of The Academy Hair & Beauty Training School responded with enthusiasm stating that “We were delighted to be involved in such a worthy cause as Foster Care Fortnight”.
